Athletes Worldwide has assisted athletes and coaches active in more than 50 different sports to understand the green card process and how best to set up their chances for a successful green card petition. We help athletes and coaches create a realistic plan to obtain qualifying evidence over a 12 month period.

GREEN CARDS

Permanent Residency in the U.S. can be obtained by athletes and coaches who can demonstrate extraordinary ability in athletics. Achievements in the particular sport must be recognized through “extensive documentation.” Unlike the O-1 visa, an athlete or coach may sponsor himself for the green card.

P Visas

The P-1 classification applies to you if you are coming to the U.S. temporarily to perform at a specific athletic competition as an athlete, individually or as part of a group or team.

O Visas

An individual who has received sustained national or international acclaim, and who has "extraordinary ability" in either the sciences, arts, business or athletics.

1. How do I obtain a green card?

A green card petition can be filed from inside the U.S. if you are here in the U.S. legally, otherwise it is filed from outside the U.S. with a request to process the green card at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your home country. It can take at least one year to process the green card.

2. How can I find out if I qualify?

If you think you qualify for a green card, or you want advice about whether you might qualify, send a summary of your credentials, media coverage, awards, high-level positions in your sport, and any other evidence to Attorney Jeff Goldman for a free review and analysis. Jeff will get back to you shortly with his thoughts, and if he thinks you might qualify he can quote a fee of what he would charge to assist.

The United States immigration laws include a permanent residency (green card) category for athletes around the world who have risen to the very top of their sport—either on a national level in their own country, or on an international level. Athletes must be able to demonstrate extraordinary ability in athletics through “sustained national or international acclaim.” Achievements in the particular sport must be recognized through “extensive documentation.” No offer of employment is required–athletes may self-petition and sponsor themselves.
